We Should Know Each Other
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=88387860037&v=info

Since 2008, Sunnyside resident Mark Hopkins has been hosting We Should Know Each Other parties in his Sunnyside apartment. He sends out a message to people on his mailing list inviting them to come and hang out in his living room.  It’s open to anyone, with one caveat:  bring someone along who Mark doesn’t know.

Conversation Cafés
http://www.conversationcafe.org/default.htm

Conversation Cafés are open, hosted conversations in cafés as well as conferences and classrooms—anywhere people gather to make sense of our world. At a Conversation Cafe there is nothing to join, no homework, no agenda, just a simple process that helps to shift us from small talk to BIG talk, conversations that matter.

Jane’s Walk
http://janeswalk.net/

Jane’s Walk celebrates the ideas and legacy of urbanist Jane Jacobs by getting people out exploring their neighbourhoods and meeting their neighbours. Free walking tours held on the first weekend of May each year are led by locals who want to create a space for residents to talk about what matters to them in the places they live and work.

Stepping Stones Grants http://www.thecalgaryfoundation.org/gsa_steppingstonesgrants.htm

Stepping Stones offers small grants, ranging from $100 to $600, to encourage active citizenship by helping residents undertake small creative projects—neighbourly first steps—that benefit their local community.  Applications are accepted from individual organizers, neighbourhood groups and charitable organizations.

Neighbor Circles

This initiative of Lawrence Community Works in Lawrence Massachusetts brings 8-10 families together 3 times over the course of a month for dinner and conversation. They get to know each other, talk about the neighborhood or the city, and decide as group if there is something that they can do together to help build community.
