The Magnificent One Hundred
It requires vision to anticipate a transformation before it becomes reality. In June of this year (2010), we set out to find one hundred donors who could catch the spirit of this adventure, and join us in creating the Calgary Centre for Global Community. We wanted to reach that goal by June 30. Three weeks to find one hundred donors. It seemed almost impossible at the time.
We did it. The Magnificent One Hundred are the people who enabled that 'impossible' achievement. They are people of all ages, from many walks of life, who took time to read about the idea of a centre for global community, and realized that it was an idea whose time had come. Within three weeks we had surpassed our goal of one hundred donors. Most of them are Calgarians, but at least thirty live in the United States. We raised more than $508,000, giving us critical financial resources for Phase I of the CCGC project.
The Calgary Centre for Global Community is in its infancy. It will take a global village to raise this child. The Magnificent One Hundred (actually one hundred and twelve) have shown that the global village we need is waiting for us.
